To extensively study microorganisms and use the knowledge in health, agriculture; environment, industry, biotechnology and general social well being of mankind. To produce highly skilled and competent graduates equipped with modern technology to fit into the Microbiology manpower need nationally and internationally.
To be centre of excellence and fulcrum of knowledge driven society through teaching and research in all fields of Microbiology including Medical, Environmental, Food, Industrial and Microbial Biotechnology.
i. To produce high quality graduates of Microbiology that are highly motivated and innovative with the ability to seek self employment in a highly competitive national economy and world of work.
ii. To groom students on the principles and theories of Microbiology and develop their practical skills in manipulating routine laboratory instruments and advanced research instruments.
iii. Inculcate in the students the awareness of the application of microorganisms in biotechnology in medicine, agriculture, environment, industry and petroleum resources for human development.
iv. To provide effective services for various non microbiology degree and non-degree programmes requiring the science of microbiology as an integral part of the degree and non-degree programmes.
v. To produce well trained graduates who should fit into various career fields and other human endeavors, engage in collaborative cutting edge research within and outside Nigeria or pursue postgraduate studies.
